Sophia Roe is a James Beard Award winning chef, writer, founder of Apartment Miso and Emmy-Award nominated TV host known for her distinct focus on honesty, diversity and inclusivity. Her passion for food has always been connected to an understanding that some people have access to nutritious foods, while others simply and problematically do not. This duality is the foundation for Sophia’s work: celebrating the beauty and art within her cooking, while creating resources to advance food justice, building more sustainable and equitable systems, while combatting the systemic structures that leave so many without the resources they so desperately require.

When Sophia first started working in the culinary world 14 years ago, her unique perspective and outgoing personality immediately stood apart. While working in some of the most recognized restaurants, she turned to the digital world where she could share her experiences, convictions, and honest take on wellbeing—alongside recipes and culinary art that reflected her eccentric take on food.

A natural and powerful storyteller, her community continues to grow and now extends from her Instagram and YouTube platforms to “Counter Space,” a VICE TV show she produces and hosts—and for which she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy, notably as the first Black woman in the culinary category. Counter Space Season 2 launched in January 2023 on the Tastemade streaming channel. She has made appearences on the Drew Barrymore Show, Jennifer Hudson Show, Tamron Hall Show, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. In 2025, she hosted a travel culinary show powered by Toast called, “Signature Dish” in which she travels across the U.S interviewing chefs and restaurant owners about all the little things that make running a restaurant so exciting (and challenging)

Sophia has launched an exclusive jewelry collections in partnership with Pamela Love, a custom collection of essentials with Bombas meant to help support those in need, a workwear collaboration with Tilit meant to reinvigorate the culinary “uniform”, and has worked diligently with many non-profit organizations including The Women’s Prison Association, Project Glimmer, Edible School Yard, The Lower East Side Girls Club, and more

Sophia has appeared on the cover of Cherry Bombe, Human Shift, Edible Brooklyn, Edible Manhattan, Mimp, and Par Femme Magazines. She has also graced the pages of Vogue, The New York Times, Bon Appétit, The Financial Times, Elle, WWD, Architectural Digest, Domino, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Gossamer, Coveteur, Marie Claire France, and more. She has also lit up our screens with appearances on the Drew Barrymore Show, the Today Show, Jennifer Hudson Show, and more

Sophia resides in Brooklyn, NY and spends most of her free time writing, filming, cooking and making art in her culinary studio, Apartment Miso. In 2025 she will be opening her up her culinary studio to the public for events, cooking classes, and photo shoots.

She is also pregnant and expecting her first baby Summer, 2025.
